About 1 in 3 nonprofit managers in the Washington, DC region is African American—the highest share of managers among people of color. But we still have a long way to go. How can we foster new ideas for increasing and supporting African American nonprofit leadership in our community?

We hope you'll join us for a unique and timely breakfast and conversation event to address important issues facing black professionals in nonprofits and philanthropy. Come enjoy an energizing morning with colleagues who identify, manage and influence investments and resources for Black communities for networking and conversation at one of our area's hottest locations - Busboys and Poets!

"More Diversity Please:

New Ideas for Shaping the Future of African American Nonprofit Leadership"

Our Moderator: Edward Jones, BPA Vice Chair and Director of Conferences at the Council on Foundations

Our Speaker: Diane Bell McKoy, President & CEO of Associated Black Charities will provide an overview of the recent Urban Institute study of nonprofit racial diversity in the region and the work of the Baltimore-Washington Racial Diversity Collaborative.

Our Panel: Several black nonprofit leaders will respond to Diane's remarks, offering their experiences and perspectives on how we can move forward from here. In particular:

  • How do we increase black nonprofit & board leadership?
  • How can we support each other as black nonprofit leaders?
  • How can philanthropy play a role in moving this work forward?
